An outline for this question.
- Describe the disagreement neutrally, without painting the other person as the villain.
- Show you listened to their side first.
- Explain what you did to find common ground or a decision.
- Give the result, and the state of your working relationship afterwards.
The mistake to avoid.
Saying you have never had a conflict. It sounds untrue, or like you avoid hard conversations.
The general method: situation, action, result.
The same shape works for most behavioral questions, whatever the topic.
- Set the scene in two sentences: the team, the stakes, your role.
- Say what you did, in the first person. Name the decision you made and why.
- Give the result with a number if you have one, and one thing you would do differently.
Practice it, out loud.
